Erica Stanley-Dottin

To finish out the year, we’re bringing you something a little bit different in this feed: an episode of Women’s Running Stories, a podcast hosted by Cherie Louise Turner featuring documentary-style stories about women’s running journeys. It was formerly called Strides Forward, which is why you’ll hear that name in the introduction.

If you’ve been listening to our oral histories of women’s running pioneers, you’re going to love the way Cherie masterfully conducts and compiles these interviews, and we’d encourage you to subscribe to her podcast too, if you don’t already.

This episode features Erica Stanley-Dottin, a runner with Black Roses NYC who also happens to work as the Tracksmith New York City Community Manager.

Erica Stanley-Dottin began her running journey as a competitive sprinter where she was coached by Fred Thompson, a coaching legend. After competing for Georgetown, Erica decided to stop running competitively and instead, ran for fitness and staying healthy. When Erica began running with a friend who was training for the New York City Marathon, running became more. Erica’s competitive drive began to burn brighter again. And soon, Erica was running longer distances and enjoying the higher mileage. Erica joined the Black Roses, a competitive racing team that supports women. With Roses’ coach Knox Robinson and her teammates, Erica’s running moved to the next level. At the 2022 Boston Marathon, Erica finished in 3:01. Her goal was to run the marathon in under three hours and add her name to the List. This is a list of all the American-born women Black runners who have run a marathon in under three hours. This fall in Berlin, she added her name to the List finishing in 2:52.05. Read more on Tracksmith.
